Teen Advisory Council
"I have learned many leadership skills through TAC and gained confidence when meeting others and presenting in front of large groups. Being active through service and volunteer work in the community has also helped me develop great time management skills!"
Since 1987, the Youth Resources Teen Advisory Council has engaged youth in leadership, community service, and civic engagement while allowing youth leaders to gain a sense of ownership and responsibility through healthy adolescent development. The program, which began 12 students, now has over 175 members and has involved over 1,480 teens in leadership development! In the 2010-11 school year, these students completed over 3,500 hours of community service through 100 local non-profit agencies and events. These dedicated high school students meet every other Friday morning at 5:55 AM to:
- Identify community problems & discuss solutions
- Develop leadership skills
- Plan community events
- Create a network of peer and adult friends from Vanderburgh, Posey & Warrick Counties
- Serve the community
- Screen Make A Difference Grant proposals
- Have fun!
TAC members also have the unique opportunity to interact with community leaders Including Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Eric Williams, Evansville City Council members, Vanderburgh County Commissioners, Warrick County Commissioners, E-VSC School Board members, business and nonprofit executives, and other adult mentors dedicated to improving our community.
Serving on the Teen Advisory Council prepares youth for the challenges they will face in the future as college students, employees, employers and volunteers while encouraging them to be a positive force in our community today.
