HSTP All Camp

"This has been a life altering experience. I cannot even express its magnitude in words.
TEENPOWER is the best thing on the planet. No exaggeration."

The evidence-based TEENPOWER program has created a culture and a support system of drug-free young leaders since 1992 as the only youth-led leadership development and substance abuse prevention program of its kind in Southwestern Indiana and in the Tri-State area. With the majority of emphasis on positive youth development and substance abuse prevention, TEENPOWER also directly focuses on:

  1. Community involvement
  2. peer-mentoring
  3. life skills & character building
  4. positive body image & self-esteem
  5. other topics related to healthy adolescent development

Over 3,661 youth have been trained and motivated through TEENPOWER to serve as catalysts for positive change in their own lives and in their communities. At TEENPOWER 2014, 368 high school and middle school students representing 34 schools and 5 counties were empowered to become stronger leaders. After camp, they will impact nearly 4,800 others through their prevention-based service projects planned during TEENPOWER and funded by $11,6801 in grants from Youth Resources!

Frequently Asked TEENPOWER Questions

I would like my child to participate in TEENPOWER, what is the process?

Online registration will begin on March 9 at 8am. Please visit www.youth-resources.org and select the TEENPOWER web page for the online registration link. An email address is required for each registrant. If you do not have access to the web, please contact Youth Resources for a paper registration form.

Who is eligible to attend?

TEENPOWER is open to students in the southwest Indiana region. Middle School TEENPOWER is designed for students entering grades 7 or 8 during the 2015-2016 school year. High School TEENPOWER is designed for students entering grades 9-12 during the 2015-2016 school year.

What is the cost and is there a discount for multiple children from one household?

The cost for Middle School TEENPOWER is $210. The cost for High School TEENPOWER is $280. Please deduct $25 per child for participants living in the same household. This offer can be combined between both Middle School and High School TEENPOWER. All payments are due by April 23.

My child has registered, now what?

Congratulations! Registered participants will receive a confirmation email upon completing their online registration. In the event that you are place on a waiting list, you will be notified via email. A packet of detailed camp information will be mailed in April. Make sure to mark your calendars and get ready for a life-changing experience!

Does my child have to attend the entire event?

Yes, students registered for TEENPOWER must be present for the entire event, including overnight. If circumstances arise that prevent your child from attending the entire event, we would like to give another student the opportunity to attend.

What are the accommodations like?

Middle School TEENPOWER will be held at the University of Southern Indiana and participants will be housed in O’Bannon Hall and Governor Hall. High School TEENPOWER will be held at the University of Evansville and participants will be housed in Moore Hall. Linens are not provided in the dorms. Participants will need to bring their own towels and a sleeping bag or sheet and blanket.

Middle school participants are allowed, but not guaranteed one roommate request. Each of the requesting participants must have matching requests. Part of the High School TEENPOWER experience is rooming with a random roommate. The only exception is that incoming freshman will typically be paired randomly with other incoming freshman.

What should my child bring to TEENPOWER?

Each student will receive a Things To Bring List with their camper packet mailed out in April. Cell phones are allowed at TEENPOWER, but should only be used during free time and before lights out. They will be confiscated and returned at the end of the week if used at inappropriate times. For snacks, there are vending machines located in the dorms, and your child is welcome to bring their own snacks.

What is the dress code for TEENPOWER?

Dress comfortably. We will be very active during TEENPOWER! Complete guidelines will be included in the camper packets. The following attire is not permitted at TEENPOWER at any time: strapless/tube tops, spaghetti straps, bare midriffs, exposure of undergarments, short shorts or skirts, excessively tight clothing, and clothing with profane or offensive language or graphics.

My child has food allergies and/or a special diet, can you make accommodations?

Yes, both universities are extremely helpful to accommodate participants with food allergies.

What if my child needs to take medication while at TEENPOWER?

You will be asked to provide information about your child’s medication when signing them in on the first day of TEENPOWER. TEENPOWER staff is available to dispense your child’s medication upon request.

What if I am registered and unable to attend?

Please contact YR as quickly as possible if you are unable to attend. If we are able to fill your spot with someone from the waiting list, we will offer you a refund (after deducting a $25 cancellation charge). Due to facility use and conference contracts, refunds cannot be guaranteed.

What should I expect when I pick up my child at the end of TEENPOWER?

Past participants have stated that these camps are “life altering experiences” and “there is nothing else like this available” to them. They will leave TEENPOWER with developed leadership skills, new friends, improved drug resistance skills, and most of all- they will leave TEENPOWER exhausted! They will be ready to catch up on sleep, and then soon asking to hang out with their new TEENPOWER friends! Rest assured, we will have a safe, productive, fun and terrific week with your children.
